Hired the shepherd's hut for one week and was lucky enough to enjoy wall-to-wall sunshine, allowing me to make the most of the local footpaths, the stream at the bottom of the hill and, further afield, Exmoor and the whole of the north Devon coast. So much to discover, including endless picturesque villages, ancient watermills, superb coves and sandy beaches, and several NT properties, all with amazing grounds, gardens and tearooms!
The hut comfortably (luxuriously, actually) sleeps two and has its own bathroom with full-size shower and bathroom. The kitchen is better equipped than my own at home, and there are many small touches designed to make your stay not only easier but more enjoyable, including a cream tea on arrival, table and chairs outside, a fire pit, extractor fans, optional heating masses of hot water and an endless supply of pure-tasting spring water from their own borehole. In addition, there are immaculate flower beds alongside the hut and a stunning view across a small valley and up towards the reservoir. The owners keep sheep and chickens, all of which are very friendly and love being petted but are at a suitable distance from the hut so as not to disturb you. In fact, the only disturbance I experienced during my whole stay was the birdsong and the gentle flutter of butterflies' wings. The coast itself is stunning, either as you drive across the moor towards Minehead or down around the headland.
The owners could not have been more helpful or friendlier and were on hand every day to answer questions or help with any practical needs like directions, tips on places to visit and so on. I can't wait to go back for another week next year and explore all the places I had no time to visit this time round!
We spent the most relaxing weekend at Keepers Watch. The hut is equipped with everything you could need, Maria and Steve have really thought about everything and they were so helpful and friendly. We loved everything about our stay and we are already planning the next one!
Absolutely fantastic stay at Keepers Watch. The peaceful and private setting along with the quality of the hut is hard to beat! The hut was comfortable and well designed. Maria really has thought of everything. Evenings by the fire pit with nothing but the sounds of nature is absolute bliss. Remote but close enough to enjoy the coast of North Devon. Thank you Maria!
Thank you Maria & Steve for such a wonderful stay in the Keepers Watch. It was completely perfect- full of little touches and immaculately clean. Loved the fire pit and the bed was super snug! Can't wait to book my next visit! Bring your walking boots and leave your phone- the silence is wonderful!
Thank you to Maria & Steve
We had a lovely couple of nights stay in the Shepherds Hut. Everything was catered for every circumstance. Loved all the little touches especially the cream. Would recommended every time for anyone looking for a quite getaway from it all very peaceful and beautiful setting and Maria & Steve were very welcoming nothing to much trouble especially as we turned up two hours early.
We had a wonderful few days at the hut. The hut itself exceeded our expectations. We were made to feel very welcome and would definitely recommend to our friends.
11/10 for a wonderful weekend. Location, facilities, and very warm welcome from the hosts (and the animals!) were first class. We will return for a longer visit in the warmer weather.
Wow what a wonderful stay we had at keepers watch from arriving and being welcomed with open arms from Maria and her husband. It was tranquil and peaceful just what we needed. Will Definetly like to visit again
Staying at Keepers Watch was the ultimate glamping experience for us, Maria and Steve have provided every little thing you may need....and all to the highest and luxurious standands!
The location is quite something, we loved the simple peace and quiet, the sounds of nature, the amazing lack of light pollution giving a fantastic view of the night sky. We even saw red deer two days running, capturing a stag on our phones in the adjacent ancient woodland! Another highlight was cooking on the fire-pit...fish never tasted so good!
If you're new to the area we could recommend swimming at Tunnel Beaches at Ilfracombe, and also walking the stunning wooded river gorges at Lynmouth. We had such a lovely time we really do want to stay at Keepers Watch again!
